A Reddit post has gone viral after an employee claimed that around 80 Indian customer-service workers at a US-based bank were laid off during a brief Google Meet call.The employee, posting on the Reddit community r/IndianWorkplace, alleged that the entire Indian customer-service team was informed of the termination during the virtual meeting. According to the post, the meeting lasted around five minutes.The employee said they had been working a 6:30 pm shift and were initially told to work from home that day for “operational reasons”. Later, at around 9:30 pm, the team was reportedly asked to join a Google Meet with senior management.According to the employee’s account, workers were then told that their employment was being terminated.“All 80 employees! All gone,” the employee wrote in the Reddit post, adding that the layoffs would affect around 80 families.
The post also claimed that the company cited performance and output as a reason for the decision.
