This made him very sad. The money-lender was a true devotee of Lord Siva. He used to go to the Shiva temple every Monday and worship the Shivling with great devotion and offer prayers. Seeing his pain, Goddess Parvati asked Lord Shiva to give him a son. Lord Shiva said the man was not destined for a long, happy life with a child. But Goddess Parvati made another petition to him. Lord Shiva gave a son to the moneylender, but warned him that the child would not live long. After some time, the moneylender’s wife gave birth to a boy. The family was happy. When the boy grew up, he was sent to another city to study. He was on his way when he came to a place where a wedding was going on. The boy was asked to act as the groom for a short ceremony due to an issue within the groom’s family. Then the bride learned the truth, but still took him as her husband. The boy went on his way, but he died at the appointed time. His family and wife wept with deep sorrow. His family was very religious, and his Goddess Parvati again appealed to Lord Shiva to rescue him. Lord Shiva brought the boy back to life. Through this katha, we learn that Lord Shiva is responsive to sincere prayers and protects his devotees from suffering.
